Primary use is for looking around the yard of the house or the surroundings of a campsite at night. Design is very nice. Doesn't look like military surplus. Images are a little blurry, but this is not a 2nd or 3rd generation. The built-in infrared is wonderful and really lights up the images with no visible light. The power button on top has no guard so it is easy to turn on the monocular by bumping the button while it is in storage being carried. That is why the 4 instead of a 5.
