It works really well. The only problem mine had is that it developed a crease right under the neck. Afterwards, it would fold right where it was needed to remain stiff. The flak jacket part also got really hot when it was over 100 in August and September.

I play fullback and linebacker and the cowboy collar did not hold up very well. After many of my games I come home with a sore neck. I would recomend this for linemen, but not for backs or backers.

The MccDavid Cowboy Collar is a very nice piece of equipment. It creates extra padding in the shoulder pads. I have had mine for a while and haven't got one stinger. If I were you, I would pay the extra money to buy one. It is worth it.

This neck roll really keeps your head from turning awkwardly. During wrestling season I developed a bad neck stinger and I was afraid it would act up again during football. I started using the McDavid cowboy-style neck roll I have no problems what-so-ever!!
